The Trail of Touch Cushion is a direct manifestation of my desire to physically engage with the images I create—an attempt to bring photography back to the realm of the body, closeness, and touch.
Part of the long-term project The Trail of Touch – Tactile Nostalgia (2017–ongoing), this cushion emerges from years of artistic research, darkroom experimentation, and material exploration. Since 2017, the project has evolved through many tactile surfaces—translucent papers, cork, organdy fabric—each chosen for its ability to hold memory and evoke the emotional weight of touch.
The cushion embodies the themes at the heart of the project:
the urge to return to the skin,
the longing to come home,
the human need to seek shelter in the presence and texture of others.
In a culture increasingly dominated by vision, where the sense of touch has been neglected, this work acts as a gentle reminder: our skin is essential. Skin-to-skin contact is fundamental to emotional grounding, psychological wellbeing, and human connection.
This unique cushion features hand-coated liquid-emulsion photographic prints on fabric, merging the softness of textile with the physicality of darkroom gesture. The brushstrokes, slight irregularities, and organic textures reveal the handmade process, making the piece a singular tactile sculpture meant to be held, felt, and experienced.
A one-of-a-kind art object that invites touch, intimacy, and presence.
